Hair Transplant Frequently Asked Questions.
Choosing a hair restoration clinic is a significant, lifetime decision! At Medical Associates, we believe informed patients feel more confident and assure when making their decision to move forward with their surgery. Medical Associates has spent decades educating prospective patients about hair loss, restoration options, pricing, and long term outcomes.
This page addresses the most common questions we hear from prospective patients considering hair transplant surgery, scalp micropigmentation, facial hair restoration, and brow transplant surgery. Each answer is based on real patient concerns and decades of hands on experience.
General hair restoration questions.
What causes hair loss?
Hair loss can be caused by several factors, including genetics, hormonal changes, aging, medical conditions, stress, and certain medications. Male and female pattern hair loss is the most common cause and often progresses gradually over time. Understanding the cause helps determine the most effective treatment plan.
Is hair restoration permanent?
Hair transplants provide a permanent and lifetime solution to baldness. These transplanted follicles continue to grow naturally with no maintenance for the rest of you life. Scalp micropigmentation provides long lasting visual improvement, though occasional maintenance may be desired over time.
Are your services suitable for all ages?
Absolutely. We provide hair restoration services for patients of all ages! Younger patients often focus on early thinning and long term planning. Older patients may want fuller coverage or density restoration. Treatment plans are always tailored based on age, hair loss pattern, and possible future hair loss considerations.
Transplant procedure questions.
What is the difference between FUE, and FUT?
FUE involves extracting individual follicles (grafts containing between 1-4 hairs) and placing them into recipient bald or thinning areas of the scalp. FUT involves removing a donor strip from the back and sides of the head where your genetically sound hair is found. The hair-baring scalp tissue is then dissected into small graphs containing 1-4 hairs. Each method has advantages depending on hair loss pattern, donor supply, and anticipated best results. We recommend the best protocol that provides the most natural results.
How do you determine which surgical procedure is right for me?
During your consultation, we evaluate your scalp, hair characteristic's, donor availability, and (possible) future hair loss. Based on this information, we recommend the approach that delivers the best cosmetic end results.
Will my hairline look natural?
Absolutely! Natural appearance is a primary priority. A patient's hairline is designed to be compatible with facial structure, age, and future hair loss. Graft placement is carefully planned to give maximum density and coverage of the bald or thinning areas.
How long does a hair transplant procedure take?
Procedure time varies depending on the number of grafts that need to be placed. We explain the length of your induvial surgery time during your consultation.
Recovery and results questions
Is there downtime after a hair transplant?
Most patients return to normal routines within a short 24 hour period. We provide specific easy-to-follow aftercare Post-Op guidelines.
When will I see hair growth?
Permeant new hair growth typically begins within 60 days or less of your surgery procedure. Following your surgical procedure transplanted hairs often shed initially, which is normal. New growth typically begins in the months following the procedure, with continued improvement over time. Full results develop progressively.
Will the transplanted hair grow like normal hair?
Yes. Transplanted hair grows naturally and can be washed, cut, and styled once healing is complete.
Scalp micropigmentation questions
What is scalp micropigmentation?
Scalp micropigmentation uses specialized pigments to create the appearance of closely cropped scalp hair. It reduces contrast between your hair and scalp, giving the appearance of thicker hair.
Is SMP a tattoo?
No! SMP uses pigment but it is not the same as a traditional tattoo. Techniques, pigmentation depth, and pigment materials are different and specifically designed for use on the scalp.
Can SMP be combined with hair transplants?
Yes! Many patients choose to combine SMP with hair transplants to enhance density and improve overall appearance. We discuss combination options during consultation.
Facial hair and brow transplant questions
Can you restore patchy beards or moustaches?
Yes. Facial hair transplants can fill in patchy areas, improve shape, and restore growth where facial hair is thin or absent. Placement is carefully planned to match and supplement natural growth patterns.
Are brow transplants permanent?
Yes! Brow transplants provide permanent hair growth. Donor hair is genetically sound hair taken from the back or sides of your scalp. This hair will last your lifetime.
Will facial or brow hair look natural?
Yes! Natural appearance depends on design and placement. We pay close attention to direction, spacing, and density to ensure results blend naturally with your existing brow hair.
Pricing and affordability questions
Why are your prices lower than many other clinics?
Many national clinics offer the same identical procedures at higher prices due to exorbitant operating expenses and massive advertising budgets. Medical Associates focuses on efficiency, experience, and patient care. We proudly offer the best prices in the area without sacrificing quality.
Are there hidden costs?
No! We provide clear pricing explanations during consultation. Patients understand the scope of treatment and associated costs before moving forward.
Does affordable pricing mean lower quality?
Absolutely No! No clinic can beat the quality of our work or our price. Our long standing experience and focused practice allow us to deliver high quality results at fair prices.
Consultation and planning questions
What happens during a consultation?
Consultations include a review of your hair loss history, scalp evaluation, discussion of goals, and explanation of appropriate surgical protocol options. We also complete a comprehensive review detailing realistic outcomes and timelines for all patients.
Is there pressure to proceed?
Absolutely not! Our consultations are informational and relaxed. We want patients to feel comfortable, informed, and confident in their decision without pressure.
How do I know if I am a good candidate?
Candidacy depends on hair loss pattern, donor hair availability, and expectations. We provide professional guidance and discuss whether hair restoration is appropriate for your situation.
